Live for accomplishments, not compliments.
If someone hates you for no reason, give that motherfucker a reason.
The people who aren’t afraid to be themselves will always be remembered by everyone else.
Listen to your heart
This is a special post. I’ve been thinking about writing this for a while now. I was not sure how I was going to go about it, but it all came back to me and things started to fall in place while I was reading a book.
There are a lot of things that we do, just because others expect us to do, or in other words, compromise. Sometimes, these compromises are small and really don’t affect our lives. Sometimes, they are big. We don’t realize it until a point in life when we look back and realize its bigness.
I was reading the book “Life of Pi”, and I am going to quote a section from the book that hit me real hard, which is one of the reason I am writing this post. The section from the book reads:
"I must say a word about fear. It is life’s only true opponent. Only fear can defeat life. It is a clever, treacherous adversary, how well I know. It has no decency, respects no law or convention, shows no mercy. It goes for your weakest spot, which it finds with unerring ease. It begins in your mind, always. One moment, you are feeling calm, self-possessed, happy. Then fear, disguised in the grab of mild-mannered doubt, slips into your mind like a spy. Doubt meets disbelief and disbelief tries to push it out. But disbelief is a poorly armed foot soldier. Doubt does away with it with little trouble. You become anxious. Reason comes to do battle for you. You are assured. Reason is fully equipped with the latest weapons technology. But, to your amazement, despite superior tactics and a number of undeniable victories, reason is laid low. You feel yourself weakening, wavering. Your anxiety becomes dread."
When I read the above paragraph in the book, it struck me like a lightning. Every word of it is so true, and I started looking back and it all made perfect sense. It doesn’t end here. Fear is the biggest factor in our lives, why we make compromises. We are afraid of the consequences if you do otherwise. No matter how bad we want to do something, we start having doubts whether we would be able to take that step and go through the consequences. Fear holds us back. It has always. Fear to go against the world by listening to your heart. Doing what you feel is right no matter what the consequences are. It is hard and it is so true when they say “Life is a bitch”. It is!
I am a Metallica fan and I have a few favorite songs which I listen to more often than others. Unforgiven from The Black Album fits perfectly here. Here’s part of the lyrics from the song:
"What I’ve felt
What I’ve known
Never shined through in what I’ve shown
Won’t see what might have been”
We don’t realize this growing up. And when we do, it’s too late and we are a different person. It’s never too late to change oneself. I’ve written this post over couple of days. It was a coincidence while I was writing this post, I stumbled upon a video on my Facebook feed. Very Inspiring, motivational, an eye opener and my favorite, life changing. I’ve already posted the link to the video in another post here.
When I put together all this into perspective, I really feel like making few changes in my life. Change is good. I am going to start being myself more than what others want me to be. People around me are going to start noticing it.
I think I’ve done justice to this post with an appropriate title, because that’s what I am going to do, starting NOW!
Hands down on of the best motivational speeches I’ve ever heard in my entire life. It is about 2 hours long, but I was glued to my seat the entire time and he had my attention for every second he was talking. Truly, truly, truly life changing. Must watch!!
